Camp

I LOVE my job. tomorrow is the last day of real camp...so I will share a few memorable quotes from my kids this year!

"When I grow up I want to be one of those guys who jumps out of a cake and dances..."

"I go both ways..no really like Adam Lambert"

"Miss Natalie, you have the fattest whitest legs ever. no offense."

"I think you're big, yet trustable."

"Dude sorry I just totally tea-bagged you!"

"Look we smashed up our fossils to look like crack. We're gonna sell it on ebay. Do you think the drug dealers will sue us when they find out its fake?"

"Your phone alarm is going off, is it time to take your birth control pills? I don't want you to get pregnant."

"Nothing... we're just paying pimps and hoes.."

M top, XL bottoms

I finally went to California for the weekend!!!!! I feel like a true Arizonian, the kind that just goes to Cali and goes to the lake and quading all the time (we'll work on the last two). Anyway it was Perfect. My parents, Terri and I stayed in Manhattan beach and it was sooo nice. We went to that beach on Saturday morning. On Saturday night I FINALLY went to Hollywood. I've been begging to go to Hollywood and Beverly Hills since I was like three!! My parents always make some excuse and complain about LA traffic but this time the took me.  I have a habit of loving areas people think are sketchy like Hollywood Bl. but hey I love knock-offs and crazies and people-watching and anywhere where I know famous people have been. The next day we went to Venice beach which I heard had all of the true crazy people. That was completely accurate. My dad tried to get me to buy Bob Marley boxers, I refused.  I did however by one of those straw cowgirl hats and wore it like I should be on one of the real housewives of somewhere shows.  We even got my dad to stop at the outlet malls on the way home. A family vacation was just what I needed and this one was just what I wanted...perfect!!!

I forgot to mention that me and Terri both got burns so bad they blistered. She was to cool for sunscreen and just got burned on her arms.  I put sunscreen on but still got burned all down the backs of my legs and my butt. I seven hour ride home was soo comfortable.  Also among the many things I learned in California was that I am neither a medium top nor an extra large bottoms. Both were falling down every time a wave hit me. so awkward.

Recap of Freshman year...

One year ago I was counting down the seconds until I got to leave home. Ten months ago I was packing all off my worldly possessions into four suitcases and saying goodbyes. Nine months ago I couldn't eat, sleep, or study instead I spent half of my days on the phone with my parents and half the time starring at pictures on my wall crying so loud my room mate couldn't sleep. Now I am counting down the seconds until I get to go back.  Of course a ton happened in between those dates.  I have separated my freshman year into three main sections....School, Friends and Crew.

I'll start with the most frustrating but arguably the most important: School.  First of all I learned that whoever told me college wouldn't be that much harder than high school was on crack. It was. I learned the grade deflation stinks and that no matter how easy the test is you're screwed when your classes are curved to a C-. I learned that I am capable of studying harder than I ever thought I could. Most importantly I learned that there is no such thing as failing when you are trying your hardest.

Crew. No cute sentence to lead off. I love it I hate it. Crew practice was the only reason I got out of bed this year.  Study hall was the push I needed to succeed academically. Three hour team dinners and breakfasts are the reasons I made the greatest friends ever. I love the competition. I proved myself. I can't imagine my life without it.

When I left for college I was really nervous about having to make new friends, I hadn't had to do that since kindergarden...so good. However, as my parents promised, i did. I ended up with the most amazing friends everrr. The kind of friends that laugh at you when you get stuck in the T doors, the kind that don't judge you when you buy Chunky Monkey every night, the kind of friends that will gladly accept your ghetto cakes, the kind of friends that will go eat with you in boxers, the kind of friends that lend you their boyfriends old spandex when you accidentally where see-through leggings to practice, the kind of friends that will drunkenly hang on your arm for two miles crying and telling you how beautiful you are, and the kind of friends that will walk three miles with overloaded laundry carts to save money on storage.. I learned that Boston is no Gilbert and BU is no Highland, there weren't people that dressed, talked, acted, or thought like me.  I learned that having best friends that are not just like you can be an awesome thing.

Overall, nine months, 50,000 dollars, and 21 hours of flying back and forth later...I can confidently say leaving was the best thing I ever did. It made me sad, scared, broke, defeated, confused, stronger, smarter and it made me who I am today.

Welcome to my Life...

so I am in Tennessee for crew spring training.... Its a ton of fun and also one of the most challenging things I've EVER done.  Anyway thats not what this post is about. I wanted to take a moment to tell two stories from the past two days...

First me and my friend slash roomie Kate decided that we were sick of the Oak Ridge water (and had been warned not to drink it).  We took $1.25 out of our per diem and walked to the vending machine. After a loooooong day of rowing in 85 degrees with like 100% humidity we were REALLY looking forward to this water... I put in my money in the machine and apparently it flashed "Sold Out" when Kate told me this I immediately started banging my head against the machine as we both grunted about having to walk up two flights of stairs for the next soda machine. Next thing I know a Coke Zero came out. I had banged my head right on the button... so ya.

Next story. Today Kate was trying to find a certain song on iTunes. The new mix of brush off your shoulder and Bittersweet symphony. I searched it on google trying to find the right name and I found the song on YouTube. I then typed the title we found into iTunes.  A song called Brush Your Teeth came up in my iTunes search when I doubled clicked on Brush Your Teeth a song started playing and Kate was like "oh thats it. Isn't it good?" we both downloaded it. In a few minutes I realized that the song was actually coming from the YouTube tab that was still open, not iTunes. Sooo me and Kate really did just download a how to brush your teeth song.

I want to be in Gilbert with my friends and family. I'm lonely, stressed, broke, and failing at everything. and charging my family a small fortune to do it all.

Well sorry that was sad. Anyway yesterday I accidentally laid my head on a strange man's shoulder in the dining hall. I was trying to stretch backwards and... surprise there were people sitting right behind me and by people I mean a typical jockish west campus table of guys. Awkward. So I have decided that I am too awkward. This is problematic when trying to meet boys sooo I have come up with two fool-proof options:
1. eharmony
2. Become the next bachelorette

Also I need to develop Gaydar. stat. Unrelated I know

Editing

is amazing. I deleted my last/ first post mainly because it was mean and whinny. I had a crappy weekend two weeks ago- that pretty much wraps it up.  It involved hospital trips, betrayal, and other peoples' melt downs...

This weekend was a memory maker. Me and a friend ended up in Dorchester, Mass. Thanks to my final Intro to Community Sociology paper I am aware of the fact that Dorchester has the fastest growing gang violence scene in the country. My friend and I might as well have stamped rich white college girls across are foreheads. We were on our way to Target, which ended up being a hour long trip.  The highlight of the trip was when we met a couple of outstanding men in an abandoned auto complex, they were chilling in a broken down car. One looked at us and said "Happy Valentines Day girls, you look like sweeties." I naturally said " Thanks".... they proceeded to tell us that they had something I could suck on for Valentines Day. It was awkward. We picked up our pace and eventually got to Target.  My friend likes to tell everyone my story...she is jealous because we had a bet going about who could pick up more potential Valentines. It was 1-0 Natalie. She argues that almost being raped doesn't count. There were no prior rules.

In other news, to many people Target is trashy! This was a sad realization to me. I love Target. I buy popcorn and Icees and generally enjoy my time there. However in some communities Target is for ghetto people and you don't admit you shop there unless you want to be judged.  Just a Heads up!
